Meet Matteo
Mateo is a 8-year-old boy who, despite the challenges he faces due to Alexander disease, a leukodystrophy that affects the development of myelin in the central nervous system, demonstrates incredible strength and a spirit full of life every single day.
His diagnosis came at just 8 months old, after experiencing his first seizure at 5 months, confirmed through genetic testing.
Although Mateo cannot speak yet, he communicates all his emotions through his gaze. His eyes are a window to his world, filled with love, curiosity, and a unique connection with those around him. The way he expresses himself reminds us that words are not always necessary to convey feelings.
Mateo is not alone on this journey. His younger sister, Antonia, who is 6 years old, is his inseparable companion and constant support. Antonia, with her tenderness and energy, brings him love and joy every day, showing a level of empathy and maturity beyond her years. The bond between them is a beautiful example of sibling love and unconditional support.
Despite the physical and cognitive limitations presented by his condition, Mateo continues to amaze everyone with his resilience and ability to enjoy even the smallest moments. His smile and presence light up the room, inspiring his family and all who have the privilege of knowing him.
With the unwavering support of his family, doctors, and therapists, Mateo makes progress day by day on this challenging path. Every small achievement is celebrated with the love and hope that always accompany him. His story reflects not only the fight against a rare disease but also the power of love, family unity, and the incredible strength of a child who teaches us the true meaning of life.
